Rainbow over the Carousel

by Cypress Willett

I met Scott one night at a Carousel of Happiness/Warrior Storyfield fundraising event. I had been to the carousel once before, but it had been a while. I was in awe of all the things I had missed the first time around seeing this magical place. Scott mentioned that he wanted some stained-glass windows up at the top of the carousel, a glow of color that would envelope the carousel and its animals, “to give more ambiance.” When he asked if I’d be interested, I knew I was and wanted to depict a rainbow!

The rainbow is significant in most cultures and hundreds of myths surround it. The Rainbow is the universal symbol of hope and belonging. It is magic that requires all the elements to work together. Sun (Fire) shining through Water suspended in the Air, all being held by the atmosphere of our Mother Earth. A rainbow is pure white light dispersed into its constituents. She holds all color vibrations, therefore carrying medicine for everyone, no matter what their needs may be.

In 2021, I visited Scotland for 23 days to explore and search for ancestral healing. In 23 days, I saw 21 rainbows while avoiding most of the rain. I had no real plan of where to go or what to do, but every time my intuition sparked, there was a rainbow to guide me and reassure me that I was on the right path.

To me, the medicine of the Rainbow is perfection in imperfections, total faith in the Great Mystery, trust in your inner guidance, and faith in the complete support of the Universe. Each of the colors carries its own medicine. See if you can feel which one calls you the most. If you are attracted to one, try to stand in its colored shadow, close your eyes, and see if you can feel the effects of that color on your body and your energy.

Cypress Willett is a shamanic practitioner and a shamanic artist. Shamanic art is a custom piece of art that holds special meaning or “medicine” for one’s soul. She has chosen glass as her primary medium of choice because of the powerful benefits of both light and color therapy. She is also drawn to metal sculpture and works in community as a welder at the Warrior Storyfield. Cypress became a shamanic practitioner and energy healer after spending 16 years working as a nurse in the emergency room. She was searching for a deeper way of healing, knowing that illness and trauma have energetic roots that Western medicine often tends to ignore. After becoming a Reiki master/teacher, she was able to practice Reiki at the hospital and saw significant shifts in patients with that treatment. Seeing how effective Reiki was at lowering blood pressure and pain levels as well as stress levels in patients, she began to study more modalities. She studied Healing Touch, which is another energy healing modality typically sanctioned by Western hospitals. Several more years of study learning how to read energy at Psychic Horizons in Boulder eventually led to a 3-year shamanic practitioner training. She quit nursing in 2020 to focus full-time on shamanic healing and her artwork.
